Located at the intersection of academia and medicine, The 20-story Westin Houston Medical Center offers guests space for respite and escape from the rigors of the day backed by a design speaking to the senses as well as the intellect. The building form itself (constructed in 1954 by Skidmore Owings and Merrill icon Gordon Bunshaft) exudes balance, which is further reflected in the symbiotic contrast of modern architecture and contemporary furnishings that provide an organic background to enhance the simplistic beauty of the modern aesthetic for guests during their stay. The 240-guestroom interior takes its cues from the location’s overwhelming concentration of healthcare and research institutions: a soothing palette of earthy colors, pattern and texture inspired by geologic sedimentary layers and organic and crystalline formations.
