New Year, New Stories to Tell

It’s a brand new year, and you know what that means—new projects, new designs, and one major announcement.

News from the District

What’s half a mile from the White House, down the street from the DC metro, and getting ready to open at the end of this month? Our new office in Washington DC!

We’re thrilled to be making the move, which will put us right in the middle of our booming capital. Lewis Goetz, FAIA, and John Currie, FAIA, will continue heading up our DC office from this new and improved location (see photo above). Be on the lookout for more details coming soon.

An Ode to Virginia

Transforming The Virginian in downtown Lynchburg into a modern Curio Collection hotel is a task our designers are more than happy to take on. As the interior design team, we’re working with the owner and architect to transform the neglected historic property (most recently used for low-income housing) into a gem of a destination worthy of Hilton’s newest flag.

TheVirginian

The inspiration steering the design concept lies within the namesake of the hotel: Virginia. Sophisticated nods to the state’s identity will be woven throughout the design story. Steel mirrors on the rooftop bar reflect Virginia’s once-booming steel industry, while subtle references to leather, tobacco, and brick evoke equally defining points in history. Old artifacts, like antique light fixtures and furniture, are repurposed as intentional focal points, while black-and-white portraits of significant creative minds from Virginia will grace the walls.

We’ll be sure to share design details of the renovation as it progresses. It’s one transformation you won’t want to miss!

Cheers!

You may not know this, but Baskervill has our fair share of beer aficionados. That’s why we’re excited to announce not one, but two new brewery projects in the works. Months of meetings and discussions over (really) good beer led to our selection as the architect and interior designer for Väsen Brewing Company‘s new brewery, set to open this year in Richmond’s HandCraft Cleaners building in Scott’s Addition. The design will artfully blend natural elements with the owners’ rustic Northern Scandinavian heritage—the perfect setting for a cold one.

Another great spot for some inspired brews and design? Young Veterans Brewing Co. out of Virginia Beach. Our designers, in collaboration with Alliance Engineering, are working on a renovation and expansion for the creative brewery, which will be phased in stages and wrap up by the end of this year. The design will take cues from the owners’ military backgrounds, offering veterans and beer lovers alike an inviting spot to swap stories, pay respect, and show off military memorabilia.

We’ll be sure to serve up more delicious details about both of these projects as we have them.

A Couture-Inspired Design

Fresh on the heels of the recently finished AC Hotel Washington DC at National Harbor, our team is working on another hotel for the brand—this time in Atlanta. The new AC Hotel Atlanta Centennial Park will convert a Holiday Inn into a sleek and sophisticated space worthy of the AC Hotel brand. The property features an outdoor terrace and pool as well as a courtyard featuring European-inspired gardens and a hip bar and breakfast area.

AC-Atlanta

The design philosophy stems from Atlanta’s thriving fashion and arts scene. Textiles will play a major role in the design—lace, stitching, weaves, and fringe will transform the public space into a couture-inspired fashion statement. Our designers are also working to curate a collection of statement art pieces that will complement the design. The property will be open to the public and ready for its close up in fall 2016.
